Ameenah and the Baobab Tree
Posted by Stephaney Oberon on
On an island in the Indian Ocean Called Mauritius, lives a scientist named Ameenah Gurib-Fakim. She studied biodiversity, analyzing hundreds of aromatic and medicinal herbs and flowers. She travelled to rural villages to learn from traditional healers how they used plants in their rituals. Her favorite tree is the Baobab Tree, also known as the Tree of Life, The Upside Down Tree, The Monkey Bread Tree, and the Tree of Knowledge. It is known as the tree of life, as all parts of the tree are useful. The pulp of the fruit, called Monkey Apple, contains more protein than human milk. The leaves can be used for medicinal purposes, the bark as a source of water to weary travelers, and the seeds contain a luscious oil that is used in skin care, including our Absinthe Rabbit Skin Serums.
Ameenah Gurib-Fakim was the first female president of Mauritius, serving from 2015 to 2018. Ameenah teaches that a lot can be learned from plants, knowing they are living, biological labs, filled with vital information. "Every time a forest is cut down, we lose an entire laboratory. A lab that we will never, ever recover."
- Our Skin Magic Serums have stupendous skin softening, moisturizing, and nourishing properties.
- We use Baobab Oil in products to address signs of aging, as it improves the elasticity of the skin and encourages cell regeneration without clogging pores.
- We use Baobab Oil in Skin Magic Serums to diminish sun-related aging hyper-pigmentation, as Baobab oil helps alleviate sun-damaged dry skin, fade scars, and relieve symptoms such as eczema and psoriasis.
Because of the great demand for Baobab's active ingredients, sustainability managing groups encourage commercial trade mostly for the oil, and NOT for the leaves or bark, in order to preserve both the species and the indigenous people who depend on the Baobab tree for survival. The origin of our Baobab Oil is Benin, Kenya. Certified organic and unrefined.
